Top seed Alex Eala continued her strong run at the Ilkley WTA 125 in Great Britain, advancing to the quarterfinals with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory over Switzerland’s Valentina Ryser.
Eala, currently ranked world no. 77, came out firing in the opening set, landing 78% of her first serves.
After splitting the first two games, she took control of the match with a string of aggressive baseline winners and forced errors from Ryser.
Despite the Swiss player earning several break point chances late in the set, Eala held firm to close it out convincingly, 6-1.

The second set began with both players trading service breaks through the first four games to level at 2-2.
Ryser appeared poised to hold serve at 40-30 in the fifth game, but an unforced error opened the door for Eala.
The Filipina seized the opportunity, stepping up her offensive play to break for a 3-2 lead.
Eala continued to dictate the pace from the baseline, pushing the lead to 4-2 with a series of deep, penetrating groundstrokes.
Ryser had one final chance to stay in the match on her serve, but Eala refused to yield.
The 19-year-old closed out the match in dominant fashion, serving it out to seal a 6-1, 6-2 win in just a little over an hour of play.
With the victory, Eala advances to the quarterfinals, where she will look to continue her improving grass-court campaign.
