Alex Eala smashed Italy’s Nicole Fossa Huergo in the quarterfinal round hours after completing a come-from-behind victory against USA’s Varvara Lepchenko at the Round of 16 of the Guadalajara 125 Open.

Huergo opened the match, 3-1, but Alex managed to stop the Italian’s streak to force a convincing tiebreak, 7-2, and pull away at the second set en route to a semifinal clash against USA’s Kayla Day, tomorrow (September 6) at 2:10AM, Manila time.

In her Round of 16 match against Lepchenko, Alex had the 3-2 lead at the final set before the match was halted by rain the other day. The Pinay pride completed the comeback today, marking a 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory before facing Huergo after 15 minutes.

Alex bids to secure her second appearance in the WTA final after a silver medal finish in the Eastbourne Open on June 28 against Maya Joint of Australia.
