Miami Open: Iga Swiatek stunned by Rafael Nadal Academy 19-year-old graduate
Alexandra Eala, the 19-year-old from the Philippines, continued her exquisite run in the Miami Open 2025 after storming to the semi-final. On Wednesday, March 26, the teenage wildcard entrant pulled off her biggest career win after beating World No.2 and five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek 6-2, 7-5 in the quarterfinal.
Earlier, Eala got the better of 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, after which she eased past reigning Australian Open winner Madison Keys before taking down Swiatek. With her win over Keys earlier, Eala had become the first Filipino player to beat a top 10 player.
After getting the better of Swiatek, Eala became the first player from her country to reach the semi-finals of a WTA 1000 event. The youngster was over the moon after beating Swiatek and was in disbelief.
“I don’t know what to say, I mean, complete just disbelief right now and I am on cloud nine. It’s forever in my heart,” Eala said in the on-court interview.
SHE’S ONLY GONE AND DONE IT!!!!!!!!
